<dc:description>Female spouses of expatriates are expected to face various conflicts in the readjustment process after returning home, especially about career development. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify conflicts related to career development during the readjustment process to support the career development of expatriate spouses who often face career problems. The purpose of this study was to clarify what type of career development conflicts arise in the readjustment process after returning home.
An interview-based survey was conducted on 11 Japanese spouses within five years after returning to Japan, and the data were analyzed using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach.
The result identified four categories and ten concepts. The four categories were ＂Gaps arising from expectations of returning home,＂ ＂Obstacles to starting work,＂ ＂Desire to make use of experience living abroad,＂ and ＂High expectations about career.＂ In this study, there were disputes over extra-individual factors such as environment and conditions, as well as disputes over intra-individual factors.
It would be useful to provide expatriate spouses with knowledge about the various conflicts that arise in the readjustment process upon return, as revealed in this study. Companies that send expatriates and their families need to provide such opportunities.</dc:description>
